The upcoming Mahashivratri festival is poised to celebrate the sacred union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, a celestial event revered by devotees worldwide. Let's explore the date, significance, and customary practices associated with Mahashivratri.

According to the Panchang, Mahashivratri Scheduled to occur on Chaturdashi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month will start at 9.57 pm on March 8 and will end the next day i.e. March 9 at 6.17 pm. Devotees executes rituals during the esteemed Pradosh period, accentuating the auspiciousness of worship during this time frame i.e; 08 March 2024.

Legend holds that Mahashivratri commemorates the divine nuptials of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Ancient scriptures narrate Goddess Parvati's austere penance to win Lord Shiva's hand, culminating in their sacred union on this celestial night. Women traditionally observe fasts on Mahashivratri, seeking blessings for marital harmony and enduring prosperity.

 

Customary Rituals of Mahashivratri Worship

The day commences with devotees paying homage to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati during Brahma Muhurta (the auspicious time before dawn), solidifying their commitment to worship. A purifying bath, preferably with Ganga water, symbolizes spiritual purification and renewal.

 Donning fresh attire, devotees offer Arghya to the Sun God, expressing gratitude and reverence. In the sanctified worship space adorned with a red cloth, idols of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are reverentially installed. Anointment rituals ensue, with offerings of raw milk or sacred Ganga water to Lord Shiva, accompanied by the customary Panchopachar.

 Devotees present offerings of Bhang, Dhatura, fruits, Madar leaves, and Bel leaves to Lord Shiva, invoking divine blessings. Recitation of the Shiv Chalisa or Shiv Stotra, coupled with the chanting of Lord Shiva's mantras, amplifies the spiritual resonance of the occasion.

 Breaking the fast the subsequent day, devotees engage in customary puja rituals, culminating the sacred observance of Mahashivratri.

 As Mahashivratri approaches, devotees worldwide eagerly anticipate the divine blessings and spiritual rejuvenation that accompany this auspicious occasion.
